Key findings

  • Multiple stressor interactions between low flow velocities and high nutrient concentrations negatively affect ecological status.
  • Two important multiple stressor interactions detected: antagonism between water temperature and phosphorous concentrations, affecting fish populations; and synergism between low water flows and nutrient concentrations, affecting invertebrate concentrations.
  • Future climate changes to 2060 will significantly decrease stream discharge, and increase water temperatures; requiring significant management interventions.
